Killer Colour …

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

Opulent, decadent, glamorous and fashionable…. As everyone bemoans the end of our (not very impressive) summer, I’m hopping from foot to foot in anticipation of color and textures and scents and styles to take me into Autumn and Winter.

September and October herald a real change in our seasons and a shift in how we look after our skin, choose makeup colours and how we dress.

The bright colours of Summer deepen to the rich shades of Autumn, and we begin to look for more glamour in our everyday looks.

OPI and Biosculpture have both given a fabulous range of colours to compliment winter fashion. The Washington DC collection from OPI is heavily influenced by the Pantone 2016 colour range.

Rich browns, gentle Blush pink and the most beautiful greens, all in the highest gloss, give the wearer instant glamour in 2 coats. My favorite this year is a fabulous deep purple called Kerry Blossom. Keep hands in the very best condition with a regular manicure and the beautiful new Sweet Orchid Hand and Nail Cream from Elemis.

Makeup trends for Autumn follow suit. With the addition of a heavy metallic influence, eyes are sultry and smokey and teamed with a perfectly clear dewy skin, the overall effect is stunning. I change my base in winter. Georgio Armani Luminous Silk is a buildable foundation with fabulous coverage without looking heavy. Applied with a Real Techniques Beauty sponge and a spray of MAC Fix Plus, it provides a perfect canvas for the intense colours of a more autumnal makeup.

Another big trend is a dark lip. Slightly harder to wear for most people and more of a high maintainance look, if done well this can look incredible. Nars Audacious Lip Colour in Liv is a great winter favorite.

A rich, deep and incredibly smooth textured lipstick, designed to stick like glue without drying out the lip. It’s really important if you’re wearing these colours to provide a good base. Try and stick to a lip balm that doesn’t contain any petroleum products…. you’ve guessed it It’s the same as petrol and you really don’t want that on your lips right?

In fact, as a whole, having a fabulous glow on the skin is a must for Autumn. As your tan begins to fade a little and the cooler weather and central heating kick in, now’s the time to cheat !!!

Becca Backlight Primer is one of the best I’ve used. A beautiful inner radiance without the sparkle, it’s a perfect Primer for our winter looks.

I hope you don’t mind if I throw in a couple of bits of fashion I’ve spotted this season ?

Can you believe that these boots are from Hotter !! Teamed with tights and a dress, these would add such a touch of glamour. Polish fingers with C.I.A from OPI and a smokey eye and you’re good to go.

I’ve recently discovered a company called Bloom Boutique. A small company that create some really beautiful jewellery and gifts.

And that is why I’m so excited about this season. So many things to look forward to as the year goes by.

Hopefully by the time I’m composing my next blog, my workplace of Beauty in Barrowford will have two fabulous new treatment rooms. As soon as they open I’ll show you all around. It’s an exciting time for us with our new price list in the making, packed full of all our new treatments. I can’t wait for you all to have a peep into how a small village salon has managed to grow and prosper.

Thanks for reading and I’ll be back with photos and feedback. 💖
